I spent a wonderful weekend taking a workshop with Mary Ruth Smith and in the company of some members of the Austin Fiber Artists organization. Mary Ruth is a professor of art at Baylor University, she uses simple stitches for her wonderful pieces which have to be seen "in person" to grasp the whole concept of using stitches and scraps of material to create images.
We learned how to build up images using fabric and embroidery threads. I'm posting some photos of her work and as usual, photos don't do justice to the art pieces.
